New peripherals: Stretch, shift and scramble signals with Spectral Resonator and Spectral Time. MPE compatibility: Get your hands on an MPE controller and add pitch, glissando and pressure curves to every note of a chord, make subtle variations of expression, transform a chord into another and create scalable sound textures. Or, experience sound design in a whole new light by collecting random samples from your library. And for the record, 16 tracks would have been a godsend from working with 8.- Assembly: Combines the best moments of various takes of an audio or MIDI performance to form the ideal take. Reading back over this, it sounds kind of pretentious, but I'm hoping you can get something out of it. So, personally, I feel like the limitations helped me.

Stage 3 is the payoff, having full reign of everything and being able to use it to it's full extent after using Lite previously. This is where instrument racks, transposition, key splits, automating instruments off and on, throwing baseline notes into a drum rack with the drums came in. Stage 2 is moving to Lite, which gave me some interesting tools, but also limited me to 8 tracks, forcing me to go back and learn more about the program to stretch those 8 tracks absolutely as far as I could. Yes, starting out with Suite is way overkill, but I learned the program and, considering it was an older version, it was more cut back compared to v9, meaning there was less to figure out from the get-go. Stage 1 would be getting my feet with with 7. The way I think about this is in three stages that led nicely into each other. It was 8 tracks, which is super limiting, but I ended up using it almost entirely in place of 7 until February of this year, when I moved to 10. I'm losing my train of thought, but the point is that it came with Live 9 Lite, which was super exciting at the time, considering how long I'd seen people I admired and looked up to using the latest version, thinking how cool it looked compared to Live 7.

Bit extravagant, but in my mind it was cheaper than having to upgrade later on down the line.

I started out messing around in Suite 7 on my dad's computer several years back, and in August of 2016, managed to scrape together the money to get a MIDI keyboard, namely the M-Audio Code 61. I see that you've managed to pick up Standard with the educational discount(super dope, by the way), but thought I'd toss my 2 cents in anyway. Thanks for your time guys! Any response is greatly appreciated as I have been scouring the interwebs for information to no avail :) If not- and I know I'm on the Ableton subreddit (lol)- do any of you guys possibly know of another DAW under $300 that would suit my needs? Can you cut samples in Intro? I know in standard this is pretty easy as I have used it before numerous times, but I was looking on the Ableton website and one of the differences between Standard and Intro are "Audio Slicing" Anyway, what I'm looking for right now is the ability to record my guitar, mic, and synth using my interface, as well as programming drums with my Akai Mini, and then mixing on Ableton. Ideally I would love to buy standard, however, that is not an option. I'm kind of in a pinch right now so I was considering to purchase Intro but I'm not sure if it would be the right choice.

Hey guys, I've used Ableton on and off since I was 14 but have since deleted the DAW because an intense amount of guilt had started to build-up whenever I thought of using due to the fact that I had pirated it to begin with.
